First for all sorry for posting in sony psp category, but is was the closest one i could find. This tutorial is for sony ps3.Okay,lets get started.

(1) First you need to know the properties of the mkv video you want to play on your ps3.For this in your pc you can open the video with media player classic (if you dont have media player classic installed on your pc,you can download it from here).Once you have opened the file in media player classic go to File >> Properties. Now the properties window will pop up and from it select the "media info" tab.

See all 4 photos

(2) Now if the audio is ac-3 as in the screenshot above there is no need for any conversion, the file just needs to be re-muxed which can be done in a few minutes.

(3) Download and install a program called TSmuxer from here.Open TSmuxer and drag and drop your desired video into it.

(4) Select 'MT2S muxing' under output, click browse and select where you want the remuxed file to be saved.

(5) Click 'Start Muxing'.Once the process is completed your video will be ready for playing on your ps3.

If audio format is aac?

If the audio format is not ac-3,but it is aac then you will have to convert the audio stream into ac-3.For this you have to use another program called XVID4PSP.Download it form here.

Launch xvid4psp and make sure you have the options set in the same way as shown in the screenshot below

Click "open" and then select the video file with the aac audio.xvid4psp will now demux the audio. After this complete click on encode and save the ac3 audio to some place.

After the audio has been converted, open up tsmuxer, drag the video file into it and then unselect the audio stream (which is aac) and then replace it with the ac-3 audio you have created with XVID4PSP (see the screenshot below).Select 'M2TS muxing' and then click start muxing.

That's it and now you have a ps3 compatible video file. The best thing is that you can do this in 8-10 minutes.Hope this tutorial was helpful.
